Coping Tips during a Pandemic

“I was quoted in yesterday’s Irish Independent (article by Mary McCarthy on coronavirus): there is no positive spin on this and there is a lot of panic and anxiety.

What can help?

One simple tip is to take a few minutes each day to focus on what is going well in your life, focus on what you have, what is good, and bring up the feeling of appreciation and gratitude. We can easily get sucked into the fear spiral, it’s all anyone is talking about these days. And it’s real. But if you want to counterbalance the negativity, positive psychology research shows that even just focusing on 3 good things each day can make a difference, even if that’s just for a few minutes out of your whole day.

If you don’t already have a ‘gratitude practice’ then there’s no better time to start! Today I’m grateful that I am feeling well, I’m grateful for my loved ones and I’m very thankful that the schools are still open! Even amongst chaos there is always some good to be found in the world, it can help all of us to notice that good each day.
