In this podcast of the Break Through Podcast with Marianne Roux, I had the opportunity to share my journey from counselling psychologist to EmC Certified Trainer, and how the Emotional Connection (EmC) process is transforming the way we build relationships at work.
Drawing on my 20 years in therapy and more recent work in leadership coaching, I spoke about why I was drawn to the EmC approach, and how its structured, science-backed framework helps leaders navigate emotional complexity in the workplace with clarity and confidence.
We explored how EmC integrates attachment theory, emotional intelligence, and practical tools to help teams identify early signs of disconnection, avoid escalating conflict, and build stronger bonds through authentic conversation.
In this episode, we discuss:
-
How emotions shape behaviour at work, often below the surface
-
Why workplace disconnection can trigger an “amygdala hijack”
-
How leaders can use the A.R.E. framework (Accessible, Responsive, Engaged) to build psychological safety
-
The business case: how relational quality directly impacts performance and retention
-
Practical ways to apply the EmC process both reactively and proactively in teams
If you’ve ever sensed that something “emotional” is impacting your team, but you weren’t sure how to address it, this conversation will give you fresh insight and actionable direction.
